From our trees ... artistry is revealed
ELIGIBILITY: Recent work by members of the Washington Woodworkers' Guild. Original works and reproductions in wood, i.e., furniture, marquetry, turnings, boxes, carvings, sculpture. Pieces will be selected on the basis of photographs with final acceptance after inspection of the work upon delivery at the gallery. Evaluation will be liberal on design, critical on workmanship and attention to detail. Entries will be selected by the Guild’s Show Committee and awards will be presented for design, workmanship and over-all quality.
PHOTOGRAPHY: Slides, color prints or digital images on CD in a JPEG format are acceptable, e-mailed photographs will not be accepted. Permission to photograph artwork for publicity reasons or for the exhibition postcard is considered granted unless otherwise stated by the artist in writing. Work should be photographed against a gray or white seamless background. If the return of slides or photographs of the work is desired, please enclose a self addressed stamped envelope with the appropriate postage affixed.
FEES: The application fee is $30 for up to three entries. Each additional entry will require an additional $10 fee. A non-refundable $30 fee and photographic prints, CD's or slides must accompany the original mailed submission form. Please write a check for the fee made out to Washington Woodworkers' Guild. Completed submission form, fees and photos must be mailed to: Ron Blank, 6704 Cavalier Drive, Alexandria, VA 22307 in time to be received by August 1, 2008.
OBLIGATIONS: Each participant will be required to sit the gallery for at least one two-hour period on Saturday or Sunday during the exhibit and also will be expected to assist with the opening reception on Friday, October 10th. Artists are encouraged to donate food items to the reception which correlate with the Show Theme. Additional receptions and social events are being planned. Sign-up sheets will be available at receiving, so please bring your calendar.
All works must remain in the Gallery for the duration of the show. Unsold work will not be stored and must be picked up at closing on Sunday, November 2nd. Purchasers may pick up purchased works at the close of the show. However, arrangements for delivery of work which is sold but not picked up by the purchaser is the responsibility of the artisan.
Insurance for work is the responsibility of the artist. Neither Del Ray Artisans (DRA), the Washington Woodworkers' Guild (WWG), nor the City of Alexandria can be held liable for any damage or loss. All work delivered for display must be accompanied by a signed waiver and agreement by the exhibitor.
SALES: A limited number of not-for-sale pieces may be accepted, depending on the total number of submissions and available space. Otherwise, work submitted must be for sale or the artisan must be willing to accept orders for duplicates to be delivered within a reasonable time frame. Artisans should price their work so that the 80% received is considered fair compensation. Payment for any works sold will be made by the WWG to the artisans approximately 45 days after the close of the show. 20% donation on all sales will be made by WWG to DRA. Virginia sales tax will be collected on works sold at the time of sale and passed on along with 80% of the sales price to the artist.
